A wedding DJ in Los Angeles usually costs $2,000 to $6,000 for a 5 to 6 hour reception. New DJs start around $1,500, experienced full time DJs charge about $3,000 to $5,000, and a full production with an MC, lighting and effects runs $5,000 to $10,000 or more.

What Changes the Price of a Wedding DJ
- Hours: a 4 hour reception costs less than a 7 hour ceremony to last dance day.
- Guest count and room size: 50 guests and 400 guests need very different sound systems.
- Number of spaces: ceremony, cocktail hour and reception in three areas means three setups.
- Lighting: uplighting, dance floor lights and monograms add to the price.
- An MC: a dedicated MC or hype host costs more than a DJ who also makes announcements.
- Extras: photo booth, live musicians, LED dance floor, cold sparklers or low fog.
- Date: Saturdays and peak months book first and cost more.
- Travel: many companies, including ours, add a travel fee for venues far from their office. Ours starts past 50 miles.

How to Save Money on Your Wedding DJ
- Book early. Popular Saturdays go first, and early booking gives you more choice.
- Pick an off peak date. Fridays, Sundays and months outside the busy season are often cheaper.
- Bundle services. One company for the DJ, lighting and photo booth usually costs less than three vendors.
- Buy a package, not a list of extras. Packages price the common add ons together.
- Match the setup to the room. A 60 guest backyard party does not need a ballroom sound system.
Is a Cheap Wedding DJ Worth It?
You can save $1,000 or more with a new DJ, but you take on more risk: weaker sound, no backup equipment, no backup DJ and less experience reading a mixed age crowd. Ask any DJ you consider what happens if something breaks or they get sick. At Angels Music, if your DJ cannot perform we send a substitute from our team, or refund your payment, and every event has a spare laptop, mixer, speakers, microphone and cables on site.
